AbstractIn the era of information explosion.reading is undoubtedly one of theimportant ways to obtain information.For Indonesian students,reading is anindispensable way to improve their second language proficiency.However,foreignstudents still lack attention to reading.Reading strategies in second language learningare the means adopted by learners in the process of reading.The use of strategies caneffectively improve learners reading ability.Through questionnaires,this paper investigates 75 Indonesian students use ofChinese reading comprehension strategies and analyses their use of reading strategies.According to the analysis,we find that among the three reading strategies used byIndonesian students,cognitive strategies are the most frequently used,followed bymetacognitive strategies,and social or emotional strategies are the least used,with theaverage values from high to low of 3.2248,3.0253 and 2.9067.In the use of reading comprehension strategies,Indonesian students often useguessing strategies,followed by reference materials,repetition and markers.The leastcommonly used are planning,referencing,audio reading and planning strategies.Interms of gender,boys tend to use metacognitive strategies,while girls tend to usecognitive strategies more.Foreign students from Chinese families use cognitivestrategies more frequently,followed by metacognitive strategies,and social oremotional strategies least.Key words:Indonesian students;Reading strategies;Chinesereading
