AbstractAs a new type of excellent adsorption material,sepiolite has special structuralcharacteristics that provide favorable conditions for its adsorption performance.However,since the channel of natural sepiolite is narrow,the acidity of the surface issmall,and its adsorption rate is affected,in order to achieve a higher adsorptionamount,it is necessary to activate and modify the sepiolite.In this experiment,CODcand its removal rate were determined by potassium dichromate method to determinethe change of adsorption properties of sepiolite after acid and thermal activationtreatment for different time periods.The experimental results showed that both acidand thermal activation improved the adsorption performance of sepiolite,and theCODor removal rate of sepiolite treated by acid activation was higher than that ofsepiolite treated by thermal activation.Finally,it was concluded that the optimalthermal activation condition was 2.5h at 250Cand the optimal conditions for acidactivation were 3h at room temperature with 7%sulfuric acid.If the activated sepioliteis used in sewage treatment,the use time in the flocculation-sedimentation stage canbe accelerated,and the adsorbed sepiolite can be treated with high temperature toremove surface particles and realize the recovery and reuse of sepiolite.Key words:Sepiolite;Adsorption;Acid activation;Thermal activation;CODo
