AbstractFujian Province,as the third batch of pilot provinces for the reform of collegeentrance examination,will implement a new college entrance examination plan in2021.Under the new college entrance examination plan,students'choice will begreatly increased.What challenges will chemistry face when it changes from acompulsory science subject to an elective one?Based on this,this paper conducted aquestionnaire survey on high school students in Fujian Province who participated inthe new college entrance examination.The survey found that most of the studentsprefer chemistry,and more than half of the students choose chemistry as the subjectfor the college entrance examination.In addition,students choose subjects basedmainly on their interests and current achievements in various subjects,and lack ofconsideration for long-term career planning.In the light of the problems found in thesurvey and in combination with the experience of the provinces and cities where thecollege entrance examination reform is being piloted,this paper puts forward somecountermeasures to cope with the new college entrance examination reform from fouraspects of schools,teachers students and parents.Key words:The new college entrance examination scheme;Chemistry Status quo;countermeasures
