AbstractThe price,performance and development technology of paint thickeners at homeand abroad are limited,and the low cost of sepiolite and the adaptability to the pHvalue of paint could improve the water resistance of the product and have goodenvironmental protection.In this experiment,sepiolite was used to replace thetraditional organic thickener to expand a new direction for architectural paintthickener.A single factor test method were used in this experiment,talc,titaniumdioxide,silicon-acrylic emulsion and light calcium carbonate as the main rawmaterials of the coating formula used,and sepiolite as the coating thickener added.The experimental results showed that the viscosity of the coating could be adjusted byincreasing the amount of thickener added,decreasing the temperature,increasing thepH,and prolonging the storage time.When the amount of sepiolite was controlled at8%,the temperature was 15C,and the pH value was about 8,the resulting coatingwas easy to paint,had good thickening performance,storage stability,and strongenvironmental protection performance.Key words:Sepiolite;Architectural coatings;Thickening;Viscosity
