ABSTRACTTo investigate the effect of different spark plug electrode orientations on the in-cylinderignition and combustion process, this study conducted CFD simulations of the working cycleof a 1.5 L turbocharged engine under three different operating conditions using CONVERGEsoftware. The research results indicate that the orientation of the spark plug has little impacton the intake mass flow rate, but it does influence the gas flow during the intake phase, thereby affecting the turbulent kinetic energy at the moment of ignition, ultimately impactingthe formation of the initial flame kernel and the propagation of the flame.Throughcomparative analysis, this study concludes that, under various operating conditions,a sparkplug orientation of 90 is more favorable for combustion.Keywords:Air-fuel mixture injection, spark plug, turbulent kinetic energy, flamekernel, cylinder pressure, heat release rate, velocity field.2
